Due to COVID-related slowdowns, a shortage of steel and boat loads of shipping delays the global silicone market has been struggling to keep up with demand. In part due to the demand rising in consumer electronics, healthcare appliances and renewable energy.
Additionally as the vehicle market looked to ramp up production despite the COVID outbreak their demand for silicone microchips also contributed to the shortage.
Global silicone suppliers predict that the supply chain should begin to stabilize in Q3 of 2021. In the meantime, silicone buyers can except longer leads times and price increases as suppliers look to meet demand.
